Warm, sunny weather is forecasted for this Sunday, Aug. 27 and an estimated 5,000 people plus are expected to participate in the 4th Annual Show Your Ride for Brandon event at parking lot 10 at the University of Calgary.

For the last two years the event has attracted 500 to 600 rides and thousands of others to enjoy the growing variety of activities onsite to remember Brandon Thomas, who was killed by an impaired driver, and raise funds for worthy chariities.

Kim Thomas says they have just under 650 vehicles registered to participate in the event and another 500 have expressed interest in being there. With the lot capable to handling 1,000 vheicles, they'll be room available for those who decided to participate in the next few days.

This isn't your typical show and shine. Certainly there are many great classics and high performance vehices there, but there's also 4x4 rides, some complete with mud, and everyday vehicles.

There's also a growing number of special features.

New this year is a Children's Parade, that invites children to bring their bike, scooter, wagon and children'friendly motorized vehicles and tour a special route through the lot starting at 12 noon. There's a $10 entry fee and all participants receive a trophy and a McDonalds gift certificate, courtesy of Cochrane's McDonald. There are three prizes for the top three entries: BMX bike, a scooter and a $50 movie gift certificate, all donated by the Chozen Breed Motorcycle Riding Club.

There's also a Pin Up contest for adults. sponsored by Sew Pin-Up. from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Twenty lucky people will be selected to answer three questions for a chance to win.

You'll have a chance to see what it feels like to drive a racing car in a Virtually Real Racing Simulator. They'll have the real McCoy next to it, but it's strictly for viewing.

These are on top of the popular features of last year's event, like Dyno Testing, to measure the torque of your vehicle's engine, and a chance to climb 167 ft. above the ground on a crane lift, courtesy of McIntyre Crane and Rigging.

A special ceremony to remember Brandon Thomas kicks off at 3:30 p.m. with a rev, followed by a moment of silence and a balloon release.

There's also a chance to win mega raffle prizes. On top of the huge gift baskets up for grabs, there's two special raffles this year: a one hour helicopter tour on a Bell 407, courtesy of Captain Jason, that's valued at $2,500; and a 10' snooker table.

A custom wrapped motorized children's vehicle will also be raffled separately by Dorifutoo Auto Design in support of the event.

Show Your Ride memorability is available that includes, t-shirts, hoodies, key chains, decals and insurance card holders. Raven has issued a limited edition t-shirt and are expected to sell out quickly.  There's also several food trucks onsite so you can spend the entire day and music and sound is being provided by the Teamsters and Wild Bill's DJ Service.

Registration opens at 7 a.m. that morning and typically there's a few vehicles already in line, says Thomas. The first one arrived at 3 a.m. last year/

Over the last two years the event has raised just shy of $30,000 and it has helped support a SAIT bursary and Cochrane High scholarship and a victims fund, all in memory of Brandon. Added to the list of recipients this year is MADD Canada.
