Even though theatre has been a part of the fabric of Cochrane for some time, there's never been a 'theatre season' in the town. Well, that's about to change.

The Town of Cochrane Recreation, Culture and the Arts has teamed up with Teatro dell'Eco for the Cochrane Theatre Season.  For the first time in 2017, artists from various locations will come to Cochrane to augment the work that Vision Theatre has done in the past.

Daunia Del Ben, the Artistic Director for Teatro dell'Eco approached Tracy Brooker, Cochrane's Manger of Recreation Culture and the Arts with the idea for a theatre season.

"They thought it was a wonderful idea," said Del Ben. "Cochrane is planning, maybe in ten years it will happen, to build a bigger cultural centre, so of course if you're going to build something like that you want to have content to put in it."

Del Ben added, "there are a lot of artists and musicians in Cochrane and now I've discovered there are a lot of actors living in Cochrane.  We realized there is an interest and now we just have to do it."

The season will begin February 25 with the Vaughn String Quartet performing.  April 7 - 9, Cochrane Vision Theatre will present "Screwtape," the stage adaptation of The Screwtape Letters by James Forsyth.

On April 12 & 13, the Town of Cochrane and Teatro dell"Eco will present "Dreaming Alberta," a production commissioned by the town to help raise awareness of the upcoming organic waste collection program.

The season wraps up May 12 & 13 with improv comedy group The Grindstone Comedy Theatre.

All presentations will take place at the Cochrane RancheHouse Theatre Hall which can accommodate 215 theatre goers per night.

You can purchase tickets for the events by phone at 403 851-2534, at the Recreation, Culture and the Arts office at the Cochrane RancheHouse or online at BrownPaperTickets.com by searching "Cochrane Theatre."
