Cochrane's Adora Kruger is now a gold medallist in the Canada Winter Games after Team Alberta topped yesterday's late afternoon final event.

Largely formed by members of the Calgary Aquabelles, Alberta was able to open their lead over Quebec, leaving their best performance to last in their final free routine. Alberta had a combined score of 159.0363 for their technical and free routines. They were followed by Quebec with 156.7019 points. Ontario won bronze.

Earlier in the day, Jaime Cazrkowski won the solo event and she teamed up with Teah Hoffman to win the duet gold on Wednesday.

It's the first time a province has swept all artistic swimming since 2011 when Quebec won all three medals courtesy of current national team sensation Jaqueline Simoneau.

Coach Jenn Tregale was excited for the performances this week.

“I cannot be more proud of this talented group of girls. They all brought their A game this week. It was awesome to have the full crowd here supporting us. It certainly adds a little bit of extra pressure to compete at home, but the girls rose to the occasion.”

Team Alberta won silver in 2015 and bronze in both 2011 and 2007.

Curling, Women's Hockey Start Sunday

Two other Cochrane athletes will be starting their respective competitions on Sunday.

Curler Julianna MacKenzie is the lead for Alberta's women's curling team skipped by Julia Bakos. Sarah Wozniewicz is on the Alberta women's hockey team.
