Although Environment Canada has removed its air quality alert, Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to issue a precautionary alert for the Calgary region, including Cochrane.

Heavy smoke from fires in central British Columbia started to dissipate yesterday, causing Environment Canada to lift their advisory, but AHS intends to keep their's intact until further notice. AHS expects smoke intensity to vary according to weather conditions and prevailing winds. The cooler temperature experienced overnight, for example, helped to cut the smoke.

The Air Quality Health Index in the region is currently 2,considered a low risk, and is forecasted to reach a maximum of 4 today, also consider low risk. Tomorrow it it is forecasted to reach a moderate risk of 6.

AHS says individuals with respiratory conditions and cardiovascular conditions may notice a worsening of symptoms in smoky air conditions. These individuals should monitor for worsening of symptoms and take the precautions routinely recommended by their physicians if a worsening of symptoms occurs.
