Highway 1 will be back in business as of noon today.

An avalanche caused both directions of the Trans Canada to be closed in Yoho National Park from Field to the BC/Alberta border.

Lindsay McPherson, Parks Canada, Public Relations Officer says they have been working hard to get things moving along.

"Crews are out conducting avalanche control on scene. We have heavy equipment standing by to clear the remaining debris off the road."

McPherson adds if you are driving through the mountain passes you should be prepared for anything this time of year.

"This time in general you need to exercise caution when driving, there is just general winter driving conditions. So always taking additional time to reach your destination, making sure you have supplies in your vehicle should you happen to be stopped; making sure that you have blankets, water, snacks, that kind of thing."

The highway is set to reopen in both directions noon Mountain Time, on February 8.

If you are headed out this weekend, McPherson suggests checking out www.drivebc.ca to check out the latest conditions.
