The Cochrane Chapter of Alberta Can't Wait is excited to bring two leaders together to support the merger of the United Conservative Party.

On Monday July 3, Wildrose Leader, Brian Jean and Leader of the Progressive Conservatives, Jason Kenney, will come together to support the unity agreement signed a month ago encouraging voters in both parties to support the referendum of creating a united front.

Owen Neal, Co-Captain of the Alberta Can't Wait, Cochrane Chapter, says Cochrane and Grande Prairie are the only two centres where both leaders will present together. "Each of the two leaders will have a short presentation and then there will be opportunity for questions from the floor."

Neal shares there have been lots of questions surrounding the upcoming referendums and he is hopeful the leaders will be able to shed some light on how they will be managed. "We have an opportunity on that Monday to hear and have it very clearly explained how those referendums will work."

Hoping to reach their voting thresholds is why the leaders are stepping out more. "The thresholds is what everybody is looking at. The threshold for the PCs is 50% but the threshold for the Wildrose is a 75% vote of their membership; considerably higher. People within the PCs. they have just gone through a major campaign...a lot of support for Jason Kenney less concern that the 50% would be reached there somewhat more concerned about the Wildrose."

More than just coming out to the event, Neal is hopeful the evening is the first step on getting voters to think what what future policy could look like if the agreement is rattified.

The evening event will kick off at 7:00 pm on the holiday Monday at the Cochrane Legion and will also include Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards.

The grassroots movement Alberta Can't Wait started up roughly a year ago in response to voter dissatisfaction; it is believed by many that a unified party will be the only way to truly beat the NDP in the next election.
