Further preparation for upcoming railway tracks crossing on 5th Ave. is scheduled to take place this Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Roads manager Wally Hume says the crossing will be closed for about six hours this Wednesday to allow for milling.

Exactly when Canadian Pacific Railways will replace the track platform with a new concrete retrofit has not been set. Hume says they are working with CP officials to confirm a schedule for the track closure and installation of the crossing platform. That timing depends upon the availability of CP forces.

When that work begins there will be short-term pain for long-term gain. The current platform is failing, making it a bumping ride for passing motorists.

CP may be doing the work, but the town is paying for it. In August, council OKed taking $225,000 from its road rehabilitation reserve for the project. It complements a paving and concrete street improvement completed this summer.
