Purchasing a $100 t-shirt will go a long way towards helping Bike Cochrane establish a pump/flow bike park in a central location.

Bike Cochrane now has conceptual drawings in hand for a park they would like to see become a reality. Fundraising and community support is a key component to making the all-ages gathering place for cyclists a reality.

Concept drawings are in the works.

"We're working on a central location so that it's easily accessible by everyone, safe for kids to go to and a place where there's lots of parking," explains Kendra Dowdy, of Bike Cochrane.

The $100 t-shirts (swipe over) are available at Bike Bros., 128 River Ave. as well as regular t-shirts for $30. Stickers are being sold at both Bike Bros. and Cafe Roubaix, 4 118 !st. Ave. W, for a minimum donation of $2/$4. All proceeds are for the bike park.

Those purchasing a $100 t-shirt will have their name included on the sponsorship board recognizing contributors to the park.

Besides the t-shirt/sticker drive, there are sponsorship opportunities from bronze to platinum level for the park. A membership drive will also be launched soon. It all falls on the steps of their Feb. 27 founding event.

"Everyone was excited about what we're doing and lots of people are wanting to help us," says Dowdy.

Bike Cochrane was created in late October by a group of interested cyclists and businesses to promote and advocate for the cycling community. A big part of this is establishing better facilities and improving the connection of the trail network through Cochrane. By doing so, it will not only allow local cyclists to stay here to ride but will also attract other cyclists to the community.

"The terrain in Cochrane is fantastic for cycling," says Dowdy. "We think that cycling could be a huge draw to Cochrane if we can get more facilities in town."

Bike Cochrane will also be participating in the two-day Explore Cochrane event aimed at local residents that is being held in July. They'll be leading bike rides through town.

Those wanting to learn about how they can become involved can inquire at Bike Bros. or email cochranebikesociety@gmail.com.
