Free Spirit Sanctuary, a non-profit horse rescue 30 km NW of Cochrane, is putting out a plea for help.

Sandie Hucal, Director for Free Spirit Sanctuary, shares they are looking for ten to twelve volunteers who could help lift bales from a trailer, to the barn and then into the loft tomorrow afternoon (December 8) which will be used to feed numerous animals.

Although Hucal had secured help from a local hockey team, after being snowed out the past few weekends, the team's availability to assist unfortunately changed. With a load of 700 small square hay bales arriving around two in the afternoon, Hucal is hoping to find enough assistance to get the hay provider back on the road in a timely fashion.

After being left in a lurch earlier this past fall, Hucal found a hay haulier who was willing to help out by offering to transport a couple of loads on separate dates. "We had bales reserved up north but when I went to get them delivered they had sold them, so we were late in a bad drought year, with really expensive hay and no hay for the animals. In the process of finding hay, I came across this hay transporter who after hearing our story offered to deliver the hay for just reimbursement of his expenses."

With the transporter already handloading the trailer to begin with and then driving 2 1/2 hours to deliver, Hucal is wanting the unload process to be as quick and efficient as possible. "It would be win-win for everybody if we could actually get it unloaded and get him on his way as soon as possible."

Thankful for any and all help she can secure, Hucal notes volunteers should be able to handle lifting 60 to 70lb bales.
