Not only is it Freedom to Read Week but Dr. Seuss' birthday.

You may not have known but Dr. Seuss has even appeared on the banned book list with works like the Lorax being banned in various countries.

Angelique Roy, Cochrane Public Library, Librarian says in Canada we are luckier than some countries when it comes to censorship.

"I don't think it is as prevalent here but still something to be aware of that it is happening around the world. Even Dr. Seuss was banned... who would think the Lorax for the logging industry?!"

Roy adds Freedom to Read is celebrated annually as a reminder of how lucky we are to have intellectual freedom and the right to read.

"For us highlighting the banned books is raising awareness for that access to information, and celebrating that. There is a lot of lists banned in the past based on controversial topics and there should be no limits on what you essentially have access to."

Celebrate your freedom to read and learn this week.
