The brilliantly-detailed statue of the First World One soldier that will grace the revitalized Cochrane Cenotaph Park will surely be a beloved part of our community, thanks to the artistry of bronze sculptor Don Begg and the acclaimed Studio West Bronze Foundry.

Dave Usherwood, project chair and first vice-president of the Cochrane Royal Canadian Legion, says the mould for the cenotaph's centrepiece has been approved and the cast will soon be struck. The soldier is 7 ft. tall and looks downward in a memorial stance.

In the meantime, fund raising continues to make it possible to complete both phase one and two of the entire community park enhancement this fall in time for the 2017 Remembrance Day ceremony. The Legion hopes to have an unveiling in late October.

To make it possible to complete this year, funds need to be in place by the end of August.

You can make donations at the Cochrane Legion, 114-5th Ave. Should you require tax receipts, contributions can be made through the Town of Cochrane.
