The Town of Cochrane joins the likes of Rocky View County by authorizing a fire ban to take effect tomorrow (August 10) at 9 am.
Rocky View County issued their fire ban just before noon today and while dry, hot, windy and high-risk conditions prevail, both areas will remain under a ban until the Fire Chiefs office deem conditions appropriate for the bans to be lifted.
In a fire ban, all outstanding burning permits are suspended as well as campfires, burning of wood products and charcoal briquettes. The issuance of a fire ban means we are in extreme danger and residents are being asked to be extra vigilant in all activities that could unwillingly and unknowingly spark a fire.
A list of prohibited items and exceptions is below.
Prohibited:
- Incinerators (for farm and acreage use)
- Burning barrels
- Solid fuel barbecues (charcoal briquettes)
- Recreational campfires (approved burn pit 24” in diameter or less)
- Chimeneas
- Fires contained within approved facilities and appliances in designated camping and recreational areas
Exceptions:
- Internal household fireplaces
- Camp stoves (properly attended)
- Liquid fuel barbecues (propane and natural gas)
- Oil well flaring (registration required -- call 403.264.1022)
We will update the status of both fire bans when appropriate and if residents are travelling or unsure if a ban is in effect in other areas/jurisdictions, go HERE.
