Cochrane family physician Dr. Habeeb Tunde Ali's practice permit in Alberta has been revoked by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) due to his failure to pay outstanding fees related to a previous conviction for unprofessional conduct.

In 2014, Dr. Ali was found guilty of unprofessional conduct and faced three charges:

- failure to pay annual fees of $1,800 to the college;

- failure to cooperate and meet with the CPSA’s Continuing Care Agreement; and

- failure to comply with his obligations as a bankrupt person.

Dr. Abi filed unsuccessful appeals with both the CPSA council and Alberta Court of Appeal before the Supreme Court of Canada declined to hear his appeal on Mar. 14. The stay on the college's process immediately expired and his practice permit was cancelled. The CPSA announced their action yesterday.

Last November, Dr. Ali’s conduct was found to be in violation of the College’s Standards of Practice/Canadian Medical Association’s Code of Ethics by a CPDA Hearing Tribunal and was ordered to pay $70,241.04 for the costs of the investigation and the hearing.

Ali's licence was previously suspended in 2008 after he had a sexual relationship with a patient.
