This Tuesday will be a giant leap up for K-7 students of the Fireside School when they enter their spanking new premises after attending classes in the portable complex on the grounds of the Mitford/CCA school grounds since September.

Opening day at the Fireside School, 12 Fireside Parkway, will be a homeroom day and much of the time will be spent orienting the initial 360 students to their new environment, explains principal Thomas Elbel.

Outside play will be limited to the soccer pitches south of the school so give freshly-laid sod a chance to catch.

The school has a full range of activities in the works and one of the first is a Fireside School Kick-Off Day at the SLS Family Sports Centre on Nov. 30. Students will participate in multi-grade leadership and team-building activities and will be treated to a pizza party. Visioning and parent sessions are also in the works.

A week later, the Friends of Fireside will be hosting a Winter Market on Dec. 7 and more details will be forthcoming. The Friends have already been actively pursuing fundraising for their first major project of construction a school playground.

The official school opening celebration of the school has been set for Wed. Jan. 31.
