Cochrane's emergency responders and tow trucks have been flat out over the past 36 hours as they attend to numerous fender benders and vehicles in the ditch.

Cochrane RCMP, Constable Kary Moore states as of now they have no reports of any injury accidents but shares once again this morning is starting off with a road closure. "Just another day of poor driving conditions. Currently, members are out on Highway 1A between Morley Road and Highway 1X where they are assisting motorists stuck on the road and in the ditches. Again, highway crews, tow trucks, everyone is out there trying to clear the path."

While Cst. Moore did not have a firm count of collisions they have attended over the 36 hour period she did say almost every member is out on scene somewhere and tow trucks are estimated to be at least a 9-hour wait.

Packing yourself an emergency supply pack is something you may want to consider. While Moore states it is unlikely you may be waiting overnight as temperatures cool down, having extra gear is not a bad thing. "Just be prepared. Have a bag of winter gear, some snacks, a few bottles of water, just in case you are stuck somewhere on the side of the road for a few hours in winter while you wait for tow trucks, police or someone to attend."

Winter tires and lose your cell phones are also recommended. "Not being distracted, pay attention to your road, snow tires are a very good idea, make sure your windows are clear of snow and frost, and just tons and tons of time...like double, triple what you would expect the time would be to get you where you are going."

One last reminder, although, RCMP has not responded to any stolen, running vehicles, yet, Cst. Moore says they are already anticipating an onslaught this winter. "If you are going to start your vehicle, either, use your command start and leave your vehicle locked or sit in your vehicle while it's running and you warm it up. Don't leave vehicles unattended, unlocked, with keys in them. There are many, many opportunists out there looking just for these vehicles."
