The provincial election is starting to heat up in the Cochrane-Airdrie riding with candidates on the move all weekend.

Four candidates are now in the running for the seat and all four were hitting doors in an attempt to build momentum toward the Apr. 16 election.

On Saturday, Freedom Conservative Party (FCP) candidate Matthew Morrisey was in the Heartland neighbourhood. Other candidates were reported to be doing the same elsewhere.

The newest entry in the race, Vern Raincock, of the Alberta Party, was campaigning in Airdrie and also preparing his paperwork to turn into Elections Alberta officials. He'll be in Cochrane on Tuesday.

NDP candidate Steve Durrell will be holding the official opening of his campaign headquarters in Cochrane on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. His headquarters is located upstairs in the Sheridan Mall on 1st Ave, next to the RBC.

Candidate nominations close at 2 p.m. on Mar. 29 and advance voting polls open Apr. 9.
