It is not very common to have a fire advisory issued in December but neither are temperatures hovering near 10 above and no snow.

Rocky View County has issued a fire advisory as of today (December 9) due to windy and dry conditions meaning all outstanding burning permits are suspended until further notice.

If weather and environmental conditions persist the county could up the advisory to an all-out ban.

Right now there are still exceptions, such as:

  • Internal household fire places
  • Incinerators (for farm and acreage use)
  • Burning barrels
  • Camp stoves
  • Solid fuel barbecues (charcoal briquettes)
  • Liquid fuel barbecues (propane and natural gas)
  • Recreational camp fires (approved burn pit 24” in diameter or less)
  • Chimeneas
  • Fires contained within approved facilities and appliances in designated camping and recreational areas
  • Oil well flaring must register with central fire dispatch at 403.264.1022

The Summer Village of Waiparous is also under advisory, to check if there are bans or advisories in other areas check the Alberta Fire Bans website here.
