Tomorrow, on Family Day Monday (February 19) at 2 p.m, Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Polley will drop the puck in a little friendly rivalry at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

Cochrane's two emergency department responders have been facing off to raise donations for over 10 years as they look to fill the shelves at the Cochrane Food Bank.

Marlin Glaspey, Cochrane Firefighter, shares each team will have a good representation on the ice including some EMS personnel who will join Fire Services.

"We think we'll have a squad of ten or so and the Mounties should have about the same. We are going to be having kids that are family members of the departments skating as well because we're going to be adding a kids line to make it a little bit more competitive for us."

Last year was the first year kids joined the players and the addition was well received being it is Family Day.

Glaspey wasn't giving much in the way for predicting who will come out on top. "I don't know, the Fire Services has had the upper hand in the past but we can never be guaranteed that success moving forward in the future."

You can generally always find a seat at the game and Glaspey jokingly states that autographs will be available afterwards."We never seem to fill the stands but there always seems to be some onlookers. No one usually hangs around for autographs after."

While the players may be getting a little older, the recent new recruits hired by Fire Services are a welcome addition

Puck drop is 2 p.m. tomorrow (February 19) in Totem One and the Cochrane Youth Singers will perform the national anthem.

If you would like to come cheer the teams on, both emergency services are asking for non-perishable items, which the Food Bank recently reported a shortage of.
