Al Hoggan has been named the new Chief Administrative Officer of Rocky View County.

Scheduled to assume the role on Dec. 17, Hoggan comes to the county with vast experience in rural municipal administration as well as senior management roles in the private sector.

Much has changed since RVC’s council election last October. Eight of the nine former councillors were ousted, an administration review was undertaken and the new county headquarters were officially opened early this week in Balzac after being based in Calgary for almost 62 years.

“It’s an exciting time at Rocky View County, with a new county hall, an administrative reorganization, and now a new chief administrative officer,” says RVC Reeve Greg Boehlke. “Council has great confidence in the future, and we’re working to ensure our municipal government supports our ongoing success.”

Reeve Boehlke says Hoggan is well versed in the ongoing restructuring of the county’s administration, which is being led by Rick McDonald, interim county manager, The two will have a period of overlapping service in December to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

In March, the RVC council terminated Kevin Greig, who was CAO for five years, stating they were seeking a change in leadership.

The county administration review presented to RVC council on Oct. 16 recommends core adjustments to support a service-oriented culture, streamlined processes and improved relationships with elected leadership and the Rocky View community.
