An incident last week has RCMP reminding residents to use caution if someone comes knocking in the middle of the night.

Corporal Curtis Peters says they responded to a call after a homeowner was woken up on April 20 by someone loudly banging on their door.

"He said he was looking for some assistance that he had been beaten up or robbed and dropped off in the area and he was asking to use the telephone."

Rather than letting the person inside, the homeowner exercised caution and contacted the RCMP. On arrival, the individual could not be located and at this time RCMP are not sure whether or not the person was a victim of crime nor how they left the scene.

Cpl. Peters says they don't get many overnight calls like this but it is a good reminder to be wary in this type of circumstance.

"I would recommend anybody in a similar situation to try to collect as much information as you can and contact us. Certainly don't be opening your door to strangers at 4:30 in the morning and don't invite then into your home, call police on their behalf with them waiting outside."

As a reminder Peters says if you see anything suspicious, call it in.

"We catalogue all that information and it can help us identify trends and people responsible for crimes in other areas. If you think it is out of place, give us a call and let us know."
