The 9th annual Kimmett Cup is happening this weekend (February 10-12).

The planets aligned in the planning of the event, says organizer Reid Kimmett; and what an event it will be.

"It kind of seems like a lot this year has kind of been a perfect storm with Hometown Hockey happening and that will be a really neat experience, and then we were supposed to be on the weekend of January 20, and that weekend there was no ice on the pond, so we got really fortunate with that, and now it looks like it will warm up just in time for Friday. I think all these things are culminating to make it a really special year for us."

Various divisions from very skilled, to kids playing with mom/dad and grandparents will hit the ice for a little 3 on 3 hockey tournament fun. Kimmett says this will be an incredible year with over 500 players making up 56 teams.

"We have a record number of teams that will be competing on Friday and Saturday, and then on Sunday for the first time we will have a kids division where Cochrane Minor and Rec teams are going to play out on the ponds under the blue sky."

Bringing people together celebrating Lindsay Kimmett's spirit makes this event what it is.

"Lindsay was a very humble person, I think her cheeks would get a little rosy she would be a little embarrassed that all of this was happening in her name. But for our family's perspective we owe it to her. When her life was lost she lost the ability to impact people, to help people which is what she was trying to do in med school. We get to give that back to her and carry on that legacy for her."

The Kimmett Cup is looking to raise $125,000 this year for the Children's Wish Foundation, with a side raffle for a trip for two to see one of four major sports supporting the organization Kid Sport.
