A six-year-old boy is doing well after being rescued by lifeguards at the Jayman Leisure Centre, Feb. 10.

During a special event at the pool, a young boy was pulled from the bottom of the pool and lifeguards successfully performed CPR to revive him. He was immediately transported to the Alberta Children's Hospital where he has since been released on Sunday and is reported to be doing well.

The leisure pool was closed after the incident on Saturday night and again after swimming lessons on Sunday. It has since been reopened.

"We debriefed with the immediate staff on Saturday night and then brought in all the guards, guest services staff on Sunday to talk about the incident," explains Robin Mitchell, general manager and executive director of the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre, in a news release. "We will be conducting a full investigation over the next couple of weeks."

Mitchell says the total time that lapsed from jumping in to rescue the boy to him leaving in an ambulance was 14 minutes.

"Incredible," says Mitchell. "The bottom line, the staff did an amazing job and the young boy is safe and healthy."

Mitchell says the parents of the boy have expressed gratitude for the quick efforts of the guards, guest services and duty manager staff and how they pulled together and played a key and vital role in how things transpired.
