The Cinnamon family was able to provide valuable feedback on Cochrane's upcoming composting program.

The family was already a big fan of waste diversion but says composting takes it to a whole new level.

Dawn-Marie Cinnamon says the results were fantastic, the program is easy to follow, and she is excited that soon all Cochranites will be able to partake.

"We reduced our garbage (family of 4) down to like a Safeway sized bag a week because so much can be composted. The sample material they give you to follow for the organic programs is really great."

The Cinnamon family says the counter top bin makes it easy to dispose of peels and food scraps, and no smell was noted.

"Haven't had a problem with the smell at all, even when the bag on the counter top gets full. The lid on the can seals up nicely and we just seal our garbage bags really, really well."

Cinnamon adds compostable bags are readily available at almost every store and there has been zero issues.

As part of the pilot, Cinnamon, says her family had a waste audit down from fall until now and the results were mind-blowing.

'We have improved, about 65% has been reduced overall in our composting and recyclable materials; it has been crazy good. There is weeks we don't even put our garbage can out because there is nothing in it."

To the naysayers in the community, Cinnamon says, give it a try...you may be surprised.

"All I can say is accept the program, it is something we need when you really realize how much we are directly putting into the landfill or garbage that could be composted and come back into good use that could be reused, is silly not to. Yes, it is another can we have to have out there, but it is something everyone should embrace."

The composting program will be rolling out next month.
