Cochrane RCMP are reminding residents to not become easy prey.

RCMP received ten complaints of vehicle thefts or attempted thefts from various neighbourhoods across Cochrane last night (May 4).

Constable Kary Moore says the communities of Monterra, Heritage Hills, Fireside, Heartland, and Glenbow were all hit, with nine out of the ten vehicles being unlocked.

"Numerous vehicles were entered and then there was numerous other vehicles where attempts were made to enter them. We are reminding residents to please lock your vehicles and to put any and all items of value away so they aren't left out. If the vehicle is locked, often it is a deterrent and they move on."

The thieves made off with a number of items including cash, sunglasses, electronics and most concerning garage door openers. One entry was made into a garage with a stolen opener, where a mountain bike was stolen.

"The important thing I want to say is a lot of garage door openers were stolen and the garage wasn't entered then so if you can reprogram, or get new garage door openers, whatever you need to do."

Cst. Moore says there was surveillance video turned in from one house, but with grainy images was deemed unusable.

If you have any information or see anything out of the ordinary, you are asked to call the Cochrane detachment at 403-851-8000.
