You may have noticed an extensive first responder presence around Bow River late yesterday (July 20) afternoon.

A call came into the RCMP detachment around 4:40 pm of an unattended canoe floating down the Bow. Concerned whether the boater/boaters may have capsized the collective group including RCMP, Fire/Rescue, Fish and Wildlife by boat and STARS by air conducted an extensive search in hopes to locate the whereabouts of the owners of the boat.

Just before 8 pm, RCMP released a statement stating they were confident no one was in distress and the search was called off despite the fact they had yet to locate the owner.

A second release was later issued stating the owner of the boat did make contact with the RCMP hearing about the search and ensured they were safe. The boater did say he was thrown into the water due to the strong current but was at home safe and sound.
