Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) is in the early stages of preparing its new forest management plan and the public is invited to take a look what the company is working towards during a public information session on Thursday, Apr. 27 at Frank Wills Memorial Hall, 405-1 St. E.

SLS Woodlands Manager Ed Kulcsar says this is a strategic level forest management plan that is resubmitted to the Alberta Government every 10 years. At Thursday's meeting they will give a powerpoint presentation on forest management planning.

"In that presentation we'll be outlining where there will be opportunities down the road for public input so people can plan to be engaged at those different opportunities and then we'll answer any questions they have around the forest management planning process," he explains.

Key elements of the plan include a new timber supply analysis to define sustainable harvest levels, a new sequence of harvesting activities over the next 20 years and how other resource values will be accommodated. The plan is targeted for submission to the government in September 2018.

Independent of this is SLS's annual open house detailing their harvest operating plan. That open house is being held May 10 and 11.

Thursday's meeting begins at 3:30 p.m.
