Cochranites came out in high numbers for the first advance poll on Saturday and it's hoped they'll also be a good crowd tonight.

The second advance poll for Cochrane's municipal election is being held tonight, Oct. 11, in the council chambers of the RancheHouse, 101 RancheHouse Rd., from 4 to 8 p.m. There's also one more at the RancheHouse on Thursday Oct. 12, also from 4 to 8 p.m.

The first advance poll held on Oct. 7 saw a steady stream of people cast their ballots to help select the mayor and six councillors who will lead Cochrane for the next four years. Returning officer Jaylene Knight said they had a 46 per cent increase from the one Saturday advance poll held in 2013 and there were people ages 18 and 95 exercising their democratic right.

One final Saturday advance poll is being held on Oct. 14 at the SLS Family Sport Centre, 800 Griffin Rd. E., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Election day is Oct. 16.

The last municipal election saw only 33 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots but there's a keen interest in this year's election and more are expected.
