While gas prices jumped drastically in Cochrane last week, don't expect any price relief soon. In fact, with summer knocking on the door, expect them to climb even higher.

Prices in Cochrane have settled in at $124.9 per lite of regular unleaded gas after two huge jumps in one week, placing it ahead of pricing at this time last year. Currently, the average price is just under $1.17 in Calgary about $1.14 in Edmonton.

"With Canadian drivers seeing average pump prices surge ahead of their year-ago level, there are troubling signs that prices will become even more expensive thanks to the switch-over to summer gasoline," says Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.

GasBuddy forecasts gas will climb another two cents this week. By early summer last year it wasn't unusual to be paying $1.33 per litres with prices peaking around the $1.39 mark in early July.

According to GasBuddy historical data, gasoline prices on April 8 in Alberta have ranged widely over the last five years: 119.78 c/L in 2018, 101.77 c/L in 2017, 86.00 c/L in 2016, 94.30 c/L in 2015 and 118.70 c/L in 2014.
