After two advance polls nearly double the number of people have cast their ballots in advance of election day.

By Oct. 11, 677 people had voted, compared to 367 in total during the 2013 municipal election.

Returning Officer Jaylene Knight says there's been a substantial increase in just two days of voting and there's two more advance polls left prior to election day on Oct. 16.

"We have been extremely happy with the turnout so far and everyone seems to be very prepared with the proper identification and so we are certainly looking forward to see the numbers by end of day Saturday leading up to election day," says Knight.

They do, however, realize the town's number of eligible voters has increased substantially and that might account for some of the higher turnout, but they believe voters are engaged in this election. The town's spring census calculated the town's 18 and over population as 18,718 compared to 11,875 in 2011.

There's an advance poll tonight at the Cochrane RancheHouse, 101 RancheHouse Rd., from 4 to 8 p.m. The last one is on Saturday Oct. 14 at the SLS Family Sports Centre , 800 Griffin Rd. E., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Election day is Monday, Oct. 16.
