Like all the vintage vehicles of the Cochrane Classic Car Club, there's a story behind this 1949 Mercury of club president Ray Kaczmer. You can catch up with him at one of the club's many gatherings this summer.

While this Sunday's Charity Poker Rally has been postponed until June 24, due to anticipated poor weather, it will still be another busy summer for members of the Cochrane Classic Car Club.

The club has partnered with NorthStar Ford with support from other businesses to hold a poker rally and barbecue in support of the Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area. Weather is a major factor, particularly with vintage vehicles, thus the rescheduling.

In the meantime, the club continues to meet Thursday nights, weather permitting, from 5 to 8 p.m. Their regular location is the Safeway parking lot, just off 5th Ave. but for a dozen of the Thursdays they'll be setting up at other various businesses across town, mostly automotive-related. Their next special outing is on June 21 at NAPA Auto, 30 Railway St. E. and Midas, located right next door.

Club president Ray Kaczmer anticipates they'll have 70 members, if not more, this season

"We've been growing and we're doing a lot more," says Kaczmer. "We're trying to be active and more visible and that's helping."

The club gives vintage car buffs a chance to meet regularly to discuss their passion and to exchange ideas and information. For the public, it's a chance to view some of the incredible vehicles.

"People can't make every event, but they come out when they can and that's just fine," says Kaczmer.

Near the end of the season is the annual Cochrane Classic Show and Shine that fills the Historic Downtown when the weather cooperates. The club is once again teaming up with Cremona to run back-to-back events on Sept. 8-9.
