Fat bikers--this one is for you!

Due to its enormous popularity last winter, the Ultimate Fat Bike Tour is returning on Mar. 9 to the Glenbow Park Provincial Park. Registration is now open for the two time slots available and it's recommended to sign up early.

In partnership with Bike Bros, the park foundation introduced the tour last winter. It proved so popular, that the tour sold out quickly and a second was added.

Fat bikers will take off for about a 2.5 hour guided trek to enjoy the many splendors of the unique provincial park, just east of Cochrane. Participants will have a chance to enjoy the park's stunning vistas and along the way will view some of the historical features of the park.

The cost is $60 and it includes bike rental, hot beverage and swag. If you have your own fat bike the price of registration drops to $35. There are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. tours being offered.

Helmets are required to be worn by participants and are not supplied. The tour is open to those ages 15 plus. Please dress appropriately for weather conditions.

"Last year we sold out and the minute we put it in our newsletter this year people started registering," says Sarah Parker, executive director of Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation. "It looks to be another pretty exciting event this year."

The event has also helped to draw attention to Glenbow Ranch as a fat biking destination.

"Whenever there's a snowfall here we see fat bike tires out in the park moreso than before, which was our hope to let people know there are things to do in Glenbow Ranch in the winter."

Summer Cycling Tours

After the launch of the fat bike tours, the foundation received overwhelming feedback from people wanting to do more cycle tours of the park. With the assistance of Alberta Tourism, a pilot project is being launched to do just that.

Starting in May, people will be able to bring their own bikes and participate in tours with park guides, They'll have a choice of two different routes and each is approximately two hours long.

"We're really excited and we hope it's incredibly popular so that it will become an annual offering here at Glenbow Ranch," says Parker.
