A reminder that Rocky View Schools is hosting a level two public consultation this evening (February 13) beginning at 7 pm.

The RVS Board is gathering feedback from the various consultation evenings held throughout the division to help them make an informed, best decision on how to handle the transportation deficit being projected for this fall's transportation budget.

With a one million dollar shortfall, the board is hopeful to hear from as many stakeholders as possible. Fiona Gilbert, Ward 6 Rocky View School Trustee and Board Vice Chair, shares it is important for all families with a child in Rocky View Schools to attend. "To get informed, to ask questions, to share their voice. Decisions regarding budgets and how to spend public dollars impacts everyone and I would really like to hear from as many people as possible."

Having a strong voice in Cochrane is important because the decision will be made division-wide which includes feedback from Airdrie, Strathmore, Chestermere and Rocky View County parents/caregivers as well.

Feedback has already been steadily coming in through a couple of different streams, says Gilbert. "I have heard that lots of people have completed the survey so that is great! I personally have not seen any of the survey data/responses as this will come to the Board once the survey has closed. There has been good discussion at School Council meetings that I have attended over the past couple of weeks and many parents are very concerned with the idea of taking money away from instruction to fund transportation services."

There are a number of suggestions being brought forward some that could impact instruction, bell times, bus routes, and discontinuing early out Friday's.

If you have an opportunity to attend the open house it is being held at Cochrane High's new theatre this evening at 7 pm.
