If you have recently checked your mailbox there is a good chance you will have received your tax assessment.

Gail Butz, Manager of Tax and Assessment, says the assessments went out on January 27, and overall assessment values have decreased in comparison to $499,000 (roughly) the year before.

"The residential single family decreased 3.61% on an average so the new overall single family average value is now $481,410."

Butz says although council approved a slight tax increase, the amount you will pay in taxes is dependent on a couple things.

"One of the things is we get the requisition from the provincial government for the school portion of it and that doesn't come until around April, then that is along with the new municipal the two rates are calculated then."

Butz adds with overall parcel growth up but values down, the tax rate will have to change to levy out the $23.8 million dollar 2017 budget. That amount with the school portion should be determined by May setting your 2017 property tax rate.

Assessed values were determined as of July 2016; property sales in the market and home renovations can change your assessed value. Residents are able to review their whole property as well as neighbouring homes by going here.
