At a special Rocky View School Board meeting this morning (February 16), trustees gave three readings to Bylaw 2017-2.

The bylaw was a revised version that would redraw ward boundaries and add a trustee in Airdrie.

Due to an error in the original bylaw that omitted certain legal land descriptions, all three readings were necessary. The first reading heard the bylaw in its entirety before it was voted on by the school board. The first reading was carried with a 5-1 vote, with Ward 4 Trustee Helen Clease in opposition.

The second reading was only a partial reading. After Trustee Clease registered her opposition, the second reading carried on a 5-1 vote.

In order to have the third reading the same day, a motion to bring the third reading forward needed to unanimously. After some discussion, the board voted unanimously to proceed with the process. The meeting concluded with a third reading that carried with a 5-1 vote.

The School Board can now submit the bylaw for approval by the Education Minister. If approved, the new wards would take effect with the upcoming municipal election.
