Cochrane RCMP is asking motorists to slow down around the scene of a collision that occurred earlier this morning (February 7).

RCMP responded to the call of two semi-tractor trailers colliding on Highway 1 at Sibbald Creek Road around 2:15 this morning, says Cochrane RCMP, Constable Kary Moore.

"The collision involving two tractor-trailers resulted in the road being closed for a period of time. For approximately four hours it temporarily reduced eastbound traffic to a single lane, both lanes have since reopened, and RCMP have cleared the scene, but there is still some cleanup happening out there, it's going to take a while. The debris from both semis is in the ditches and needs to be cleaned up, so let the cleanup crews do what they need to do."

Both drivers sustained minor injuries in the early morning crash, with one being transported to the hospital and the other treated on scene.

Cst. Moore could not comment as to whether charges will be laid in the collision as the investigation at this time is ongoing. "It is too early at this time. Drugs, alcohol, speed, fatigue; it is all part of the big package of the investigation."

If you witnessed the collision or the lead-up, you are asked to call the Cochrane detachment at 403-851-8000.
