A special ceremony was held on Wednesday (October 17) morning, as Terrance Haxton unveiled a special Legacy Little Free Library in honour of his late wife Linda (Lindsie) Haxton.

More than just an incredible community supporter, Lindsie had a passion for reading, literature, and lifelong learning, shares Haxton. "She was an educator, authour, musician...she was so many things and just an incredible person."

Wanting to create a special Legacy for his wife, this is really the second chapter of a project which began a few years ago. Working alongside Family Community Support Services and the Parent Link Centre, Terrance created the Lindsie Haxton Legacy Library Collection. "We have a room set up in Parent Link and they have a tremendous number of resources which are just excellent. We have kits that families can borrow dealing with any aspects of special needs or any aspect of family issues. It is an opportunity for people to come in free of charge, take out resources that will support them, as families or individuals, in whatever they are dealing with."

Knowing the benefit the legacy library collection has brought to families in the Cochrane community, the idea of offering a mini library outside seemed like a great extension. Offering up the same type of resource books the Lindsie Haxton Legacy Little Free Library is officially open.

Haxton says Lindsie was a very private person who was passionate about supporting people of all ages. Mentoring both young and old community members, those with special needs, and volunteering with individuals at the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured, Terrance shares, "she had a tremendous capacity to care and to give." Feeling the little library is not too 'showy', he feels his wife would be proud. "It is under the radar but yet people are being touched and supported. She would have been the last person to look for something in her name but I wanted to do something because I don't want her to be lost."

The legacy library in front of the Parent Link Centre will have a special emphasis on books for children and you are invited to stop by, take a book, leave a book and in turn, you will honour a lady whose legacy lives on.

Terrance did put out a special request for residents to support and continue to contribute to the long-term sustainability of both Cochrane Family Community Support Services and the Parent Link Centre so they can continue to offer incredible services, programs and resources that benefit families in our community. "Anything I can do to promote them, support them, and encourage others to get involved, I will continue to do. That is part of being a community, being a good neighbour, and looking out for one another."
