Cochrane EMS responded to call of an injured man in the vicinity of Highway 40 and TransAlta Road last evening (February 17).

The male in his mid 30s was riding an ATV when his upper leg was impaled by a broken branch 3 inches in diameter, sustaining a major leg injury.

Due to the severity of injury and distance to the hospital, EMS requested STARS. The injured man was flown to Foothills Hospital in serious condition with part of the branch still embedded in his upper leg.
