Rural Crime Watch made a difference in the arrest of a man of no fixed address arrested for a break-in in the Ghost Lake summer village, Apr. 22.

About 7 p.m. last night (Apr. 23),  residents of the summer village identified a suspicious male pulling a cart filled with property and wearing distinctive clothing. The RCMP responded, located the man and arrested him for break and entering and possession of property obtained by crime. Among the items in the wagon were two firearms which were identified as belonging to a nearby resident.

Ghost Lake Village had been alerted by a resident whose holiday trailer was broken into on Apr. 22. Various personal effects, including some distinctive clothing, were stolen.

"RCMP take rural crime seriously, and initiatives such as Rural Crime Watch programs make a difference," states RCMP Sgt. Tom Kalis in his news release. "In this case, nearby residents were alerted to the presence of an intruder into the community which directly led to the arrest of a suspect, recovery of property including firearms, and improved safety."

More details will be forthcoming from the RCMP.
