Three people received non-life-threatening injuries and two were transported to a Calgary hospital from a four-vehicle collision on Hwy. 22 south of Cochrane that disrupted traffic for several hours yesterday afternoon.

A woman receiving serious but non-life threatening injuries and a male passenger with minor injuries were both transported by EMS to the hospital. A third person was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene. The two people in the first vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

Traffic was backed up for several hours and was being re-routed while Cochrane RCMP and RCMP collision analysts continued their investigation into a collision that occurred in clear and sunny conditions. RCMP say alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor.

The collision occurred at approximately 4 p.m. just four minutes south of Fireside when the driver of an SUV travelling northbound on Hwy. 22 was attempting to turn on to Township Rd. 252 with two SUVs close behind. A fourth vehicle, a passenger van, collided with both stopped SUVs, pushing one of them into the turning SUV.

No charges have been laid at this time.
