A planned twinning project for a busy road that borders Rocky View County has been put on hold by the city of Calgary.

Work on 12 Mile Coulee Road south had been schedule to start in the spring but Rocky View Division eight Councillor Eric Lowther says the city has put the project off for at least a year because of insufficient infrastructure funds.

The project was to twin the road from the 1A highway through to TWP Road 252 / 80th Avenue. 12 Mile Coulee Road is an important road bordering Rocky View County that is used by people living in South Bearspaw.

Councillor Lowther hosted a meeting in November at the Bearspaw Lions Hall.  South Bearspaw residents had questions answered about their concerns over having safe access to the road during construction as well as having emergency access routes available throughout the project and beyond.

Lowther says he doesn't know whether or not the city will put the project back on track for 2018.
