Yesterday (June 17), traffic was impacted on Highway 22 two different times due to two separate collisions.

At approximately 2 pm, Cochrane RCMP, Redwood Meadows Fire Services, and EMS responded to a report that a southbound motorcycle, with two occupants, had collided with a southbound SUV.

RCMP Corporal Troy Savinkoff, says the collision occurred right around Redwood Meadows when an SUV slowed down for slower traffic and a motorcycle came up right behind it.  "The motorcycle lost control while attempting to stop for the SUV and the passenger was ejected off the motorcycle and contacted the SUV, causing broken bones and internal injuries."

STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched and assessed the injured female on the scene but it was determined that the victim could be transported to the hospital via ground ambulance, therefore, relinquishing the need for STARS.

The female passenger is being treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and Cpl. Savinkoff does not believe that criminal charges will be forthcoming, but the investigation is still ongoing.

South and northbound traffic was impacted yesterday afternoon for about an hour.

Later on in the evening around 10 pm, Cochrane RCMP responded to another collision, this time involving a semi-tractor trailer and a BMW car on Highway 8, west of Highway 22.

While Cpl. Savinkoff did not have the full report, he shared the information he had. "Preliminary investigation revealed the BMW car drove into the lane of the semi tractor-trailer unit and a male received serious but non-fatal injuries as a result of the collision. I don't know about the injuries, if any, to the driver of the semi tractor-trailer unit at this time."

The highway was reduced to one lane this morning due to the recovery of the semi-tractor trailer that was jackknifed.

There is no word on whether charges will be laid against the driver of the BMW or whether any other factors were at play at this time.
