Cochrane RCMP has provided a composite sketch of the person of interest in the case. They are hopeful the sketch will lead to identifying a person of interest in the case.

Cochrane RCMP is seeking public assistance in a rather uncommon but serious road rage incident yesterday afternoon (December 7).

Around 3:45 pm, RCMP responded to a report of a driver threatening another driver with a gun.

Constable Kary Moore, shares the victim was turning westbound onto Highway 1A from Highway 22. "A dirty, cherry red SUV, possibly a Nissan, passed the victim in the turning lane and then pointed a black gun at the occupants of the first vehicle threatening them."

While it is unknown, if the gun was real or fake, Cst. Moore says any incident where a gun comes into play is handled as a real firearm. "At this time we don't know but we treat all gun complaints as real, even if turns out not to be."

The assailant's vehicle was last seen travelling west on Highway 1A from Cochrane. Moore states the driver of the red SUV is described as a late 40-year-old male wearing a black v-neck t-shirt and donning a Montreal Canadians hat.

Cst Moore says this is a very extreme and concerning case; while no one was physically hurt the incident really shook up the victims.

The road rage incident is being actively investigated and RCMP is hopeful someone driving in the area at the time can help with the investigation. "If anybody witnessed this incident or recognizes this vehicle and observed any erratic behaviour or experienced anything similar, to please call the RCMP in Cochrane."

If you have any information the Cochrane detachment can be reached at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
