Cochrane, Kananaskis and Canmore RCMP along with fire and EMS crews responded to reports of a plane crash in the area of Mt. Rae Glacier in the Highwood Pass located in K-country yesterday (August 1).

The twin-engine plane with two occupants was said to have crashed around 1:30 pm, says District RCMP, Corporal Laurel Scott. "Witnesses reported seeing the plane crash and slide down the hill."

While no information is being released on the occupants of the plane at this time, Corporal Scott can confirm that Kananaskis Public Safety Officers recovered two adult male bodies from the crash. "Unfortunately, both those males were confirmed on the scene to be deceased. There was no one else in the plane and we were able to establish there were only two occupants."

The investigation into the crash will now be carried out by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and RCMP have secured the scene for their arrival. "It is anticipated they will be there this morning or may already be there and they will take over the investigation."

Corporal Scott was not able to say how long it will take the Transportation Safety Board of Canada to conclude the investigation but could only confirm ages of the two men. "They were two adult males a 23-year-old and a 59-year-old and that is the extent of the information I have. I don't have any information about where the plane was coming from or going to and part of that becomes part of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada's investigation."

When more information becomes available, we will provide another update.
