Motorists can expect delays as construction ramps up on major improvements to the Hwy. 22 and Hwy. 1 interchange.

Work on the $7.8 million project is slated to continue 24/7 until Nov. 15 on the major improvement to the eastbound lanes of the interchange. Alberta Transportation is removing the two east loops, replacing the overhead sign structure. There's also street light installation, traffic signal installation, grading and paving being completed.

During construction, there will be a width restriction of 4.5m and no passing allowed. Expect speed reductions, pavement drop-off. Watch for flagpersons and be prepared to stop.

The new interchange is anticipated to open for traffic sometime next year, says Anna Neale, Alberta Transportation communications advisor.
