Cochrane's Performing Art Students from Bow Valley High School are ready to take you back to the year 1959 by performing a musical journey about the love of two teens.

The students have nailed it when it comes to costumes and singing in their rendition of 'Grease' one of the highest-grossing musical films of all time.

Adrienne Fossheim, Bow Valley Drama and Performing Arts Teacher, says this one of the most popular productions they have hosted. "We wanted to do a timeless classic that everyone would love... young and old. It's funny all these old trends have now come back to the students and so they're getting into it as well."

Students Megan Pitman, Assistant Director (Grade 11) and Sebastian Salomon, performing as Sonny LaTierri (Grade 11) are pumped for the upcoming production next week (March 22-24).

Salomon shares although the production is based in the 50's many of the students were already familiar with the storyline. "A lot of people knew about it because of how famous it already is but we did take the time, watched the movie and read the script a couple of times, we have been told to look into the time period to get into the mindset."

Pitman states although they have made some minor tweaks, for the most part, it's fairly close to the screen version. "It's a school version so certain things have to be taken out but pretty much to an extent it is the movie version. Most of the songs are in it so people in the audience can sing along and that type of thing."

It was difficult at first for Salomon to get into the character of Sonny LaTierri, the brash Italian that 'takes no crap from nobody', but says he warmed up. "Once I saw how the character was made, filed a character sketch and flushed that out it was a lot easier to present that on stage and be that person."

Both Pitman and Salomon think those that come out will be over the moon with how well the students do."I think they're going to be really impressed, it's a great show, high energy and we've got some really cool costumes. Overall, it's just an amazing visual show as well."

Fossheim, says 45 students will take to the stage with the other 14 working behind the scenes and that she is proud with how everyone has embraced the production and their roles."We like to refer to Performing Arts as a family. I take kids from Grade 9 through 12, I take every type of student in the school. We have high achieving students, we have some people that performing arts is all they do, we have other kids that struggle quite a bit but we really welcome everybody. It's such an experience for them to all come together, have fun and put something on that is student driven."

Why should you come out and support this amazing group of students?! The answer is simple, say, Pitman and Salomon. "It's fantastic, everyone in it is so dedicated we have put so much hard work into it. It also helps us continue our program and helps us grow to do more amazing shows like this one."

You are encouraged to grab your $10 ticket ahead of time at Bow Valley High School as there will be no guarantee any will be available at the door as the Friday show is already sold out. The performances are being held at the Cochrane RancheHouse on March 22-24 at 7 p.m. with one matinee on the 24th at 2.
