The Bow Valley High School continues to add a positive twist to their pink T-Shirt Day with their Kindness Cafe on Feb. 27.

Held annually in the high school’s common area, students gathered to enjoy some musical performances, each other’s company and snack on some tasty cupcakes with pink icing especially prepared for the day. Pink lemonade was available just outside the common area.

Nola Hume and Jodi Hensbergen, of The Club, a safe and inclusive place for teens established by the Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area, were also on hand to provide information on their cool digs and offer some pink bubblegum.

“Instead of saying we’ve got a problem with bullying, it’s more about saying let’s be kind to ourselves and everybody else in our building,” explains Heather Holliday, learning commons advisor.

Over the years there’s been a wide variety of students performing and while it had a heavy performing arts group component that’s not always the case.

“It’s always about showcasing and typically showcasing kids who are unlikely. It’s been amazing. We’ve had incredible turnouts,” says Holliday.

“From day one it has grown bigger and it’s been a very cool experience to try to do our thing in acknowledging the day.”
