This morning (July 30) at 11am, the ribbon to the Jayman BUILT Aquatic Centre was officially cut.

MP Blake Richards, MLA Cameron Westhead, Mayor Ivan Brooker, Councillors Ross Watson and Tara McFadden, RVC Councillor Bruce Kendall, as well as members of Spray Lakes Board and Sponsor Representation from Tamani Communities were all on hand to cut the ribbon on Cochrane's largest and most expensive infrastructure project to date.

While Big Hill Leisure Pool wrapped up its last round of swim lessons yesterday morning, John Napier, Manager of the Aquatic Facility, says although his role will be expanded he has support. "One of the biggest things with a bigger facility is we have a lot more staff now and it's making sure those staff are trained, competent and prepared to be able to make this facility safe but with that said I have also been able to surround myself with other team members that have picked up a lot of that support and slack so I am not carrying this on my own right now, I really have a strong team behind me."

While Napier imagines it will take time to tweak programming, community feedback is very important. "We are going to be looking for community feedback throughout this whole process and especially in the first year. If people have comments, questions, or concerns, definitely bring them froward to us. We built this facility for the community; we want to make the community happy and make sure it caters to them."

So whether you want to go for a run, strengthen your muscles, toss a few rocks, or swim a few laps, it can all be done at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.
