Coinciding with the resumption of yard work by many Cochrane residents, weekly organics collection has returned. Leaf and grass bins are also reopened at the Cochrane Eco-Centre, 50 Griffin Industrial Point.

Now residents won't need to consult their schedule because they will be able to place their green bins curbside on their regular pickup date. But if you're unsure you can consult the town's collection calendar and area maps on the town website.

The town's waste and recycling department has also announced the date of your first chance to cash in on the end product of our organics collection. On Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., free compost will be available in the overflow parking lot of the Cochrane RancheHouse, on the corner of Hwy. 22 and the RancheHouse Road.

Last year, there was a huge lineup for the free compost just below the SLS Family Sports Centre. Between users of the rec centre and construction of the new Bow River bridge, there's already heavy traffic, forcing the change of location.

To take advantage of this offer, residents must bring their own container. Each family is entitled to shovel 30 kg of the nutrient-rich product. Shovels will be available for use.

An app is currently being developed to help assist Cochrane residents in sorting their waste into the blue, green and black bins. It will have many other features, including the option of receiving weekly reminders of when to place the bins curbside.
