The recent wildfires burning in BC may have you rethinking any travel to the province.

Maya Lange with the BC Tourism Department says many areas are affected by the fires, but they're still open to Alberta travelers.

Lange says the best thing you can do is to  "know before you go".

"We encourage all visitors or those who are intending to travel to BC to check out a map of BC's current wildfires on the BC Government Wildfire website. And also all the driving route restrictions on DriveBC.com which will help them adapt their plans if necessary."

According to Lange, around 80% of businesses affected by the fires and evacuations are small or medium sized businesses. She hopes that other businesses not in the impacted areas will not suffer as a result of the fires.

Lange says regardless of where you travel in BC, make sure you know if that area is affected.

"Get the facts, understand whether the area is impacted or if there's air quality issues. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable vacation."

To keep tabs on whether the road you plan to take is closed, you can find the updated info on DriveBC, with the Wiidfire map located on the Government of BC page.
