Cochranites are looking for some reprieve.

Southern Alberta was walloped with a winter storm which brought 13- 15 cm of snow to the Cochrane area this past weekend (February 3- 6).

Kirk Torneby, Environment Canada, Meteorologist says we should start to see a warming trend...with snow ending soon.

"Radar is starting to show a little bit of weakening throughout the day today; things should start to see clear up this evening. You may see upwards 10 cm throughout the day today and then things start to weaken and clear out and we usher back in some warmer, clearer, less snowy weather for the rest of the week."

Compared to the past few years, Torneby, says this year's weather has been a bit of an oddball.

"This year has been a bit of a mixed bag so far; from a pretty snowy October, to a very warm and dry November, to a bit of a snowy December, to a start to cold in January and then it really warmed up through January, and then a big storm like this comes across in which is climatology one of the driest months (February)."

After this snowy cold snap, Torneby shares long range predictions show a warm up with above average conditions for the rest of February.
